Brachyteles,
the woolly spider monkey or Muriqui, is the largest-bodied neotropical
platyrrhine. It has a limited range throughout southeastern Brazil and
is endangered. While living in large multi-male multi-female groups,
they split into smaller groups during the day to forage. Like other
Atelines, Brachyteles has a long, prehensile tail. It resembles Ateles in limb proportions and having a greatly reduced thumb.
