The taxonomic family Daubentoniidae includes a single genus: the Aye-aye, or Daubentonia,
a primate with unique morphological specializations. Found in
Madagascar, Daubentoniidea exhibit a dental comb and a grooming claw on
the second digit of foot common to all strepshirhines. Despite
morphological similarities, molecular studies suggest that
Daubentoniidea should remain a sister taxa to all other Malagasy
primates.
